Jesus…My Best Friend

by | Aug 30, 2010 | , | My Story | 3 comments

“God, where are you?” I asked.

“I’m here.”

“Really? I thought you were my best friend, but you’re not listening.”

“Trust me. I know what I’m doing.”

Have you ever been betrayed by your best friend?  Or felt like they were just not paying attention to you anymore? I think we’ve all been there to some degree.

For me, I wanted Jesus to fix my marriage, but He just didn’t seem to be answering my prayer. Where was He? We were supposed to be best buds. I didn’t understand why He wasn’t intervening in my situation. After all, He IS God and can do anything! Right?

Of course, but how do we learn? I found out that He teaches us through pain and trials. We just have to trust. I know, it’s not easy.

I spent many nights crying out to Jesus. Asking Him why. He kept silent. At least that was how it seemed to me. I felt frustrated and abandoned.

Slowly, God began to work in my life. I started to see Him in the words of the music I was listening to, in the actions of family and friends, and in Scripture.

I realized He was teaching me to trust Him with the BIG PICTURE because He knew what I didn’t. That my husband would choose a life of homosexuality, I would move to London and find the love of my life, and that I would become a stronger woman of faith.

Bit by bit, I realized my best friend hadn’t left. He was there the entire time—right beside me. Jesus wrapped His arms around me and I felt His warmth like a fuzzy blanket. The harder I struggled, the tighter He squeezed.

Jesus was listening and answering my prayers. Just not in the way I had expected. He had a better plan for me. I just had to wait and trust…completely.

That’s what best friends do. They give you the best of everything. I praise Him for the privilege of our friendship.

If you’re struggling today and feel God isn’t listening, reach out and grab that fuzzy blanket and let Him wrap His arms around you.

Listen to the words of this song by Meredith Andrews:

I will trust in You

Even in the moments I can’t find you

And I will hold onto your promises of love

You’ve never failed before

I know You can hear me

When the silence is deafening

Even though You seem far away

And I know You’re here with me

But I just need the faith to see

Nothing can separate me from Your love

I listened to that wonderful Meredith Andrews’ song today, I needed to hear those words she sings so beautifully. I love the lyrics and scripture you tie into your writing, they always piece together so well. I have read and re-read your last 2 entries several times… powerful words, thank you Aunt Darlene.
