What if…we let God take us out of our comfort zone?

Cameron’s six-year old son stared at the untied laces on his sneakers. He picked them up, held them for a minute and dropped them as if they stung his hands.

“Come on Steven,” Cameron said. “You can do it son. Just remember how I taught you.”

A huge tear fell from Steven’s eye and plopped on the hardwood floor. “I can’t Daddy. It’s too hard.”

“How will know if you never try?”

Steven wiped the rest of his fallen tears from his face with the back of his hand, took the laces in his fingers and slowly began to tie them in a knot. He looked at Cameron and smiled.

“See, I knew you could do it.” Cameron patted him on the back. “I’m so proud of you.”

Have you ever taken a leap of faith? Done something you said you would never do? Gone out of your comfort zone only to be totally blessed?

I have. Not only once, but twice within the past few months.

A few months ago, I struggled on whether or not to complete the final module in the writing courses I was taking through the Christian Writers Guild. I hummed and hawed for awhile trying to decide. Finally, a question by a friend gave me the push I needed. She asked, “What’s holding you back?” I thought about it and soon realized why. My own insecurities latched on to me like a crocodile with dinner in its mouth. They wouldn’t let me go. Could I really write? Would they laugh at me? After lots of prayer, I gave it to God and jumped in with both feet. I’m so glad I did.

My second leap happened this past weekend. My niece Julie along with my sister Sue kept encouraging me to try hot yoga, but again I didn’t think I could do it. “It’s too hot for me,” I said. They said I could do it. Just remember to concentrate on your breathing. Well, I finally tried it and surprised myself on how well I did! Was it hard? Yes, but I did it! I overcame a fear and that always feels good.

It’s amazing what God can do when we stretch ourselves. When we come out of our comfort zone and let God use us for His glory, you can be assured good things will happen. We may not know right away what those are, but keep on going and trust in Him. Our faith will grow and not become stagnant.

Remember the toy Gumby? I’m probably dating myself here, but when you ‘stretched’ him it was more fun! You could pull and twist him into different poses. The results were hilarious!

Is there something you’ve been thinking of doing and are just too scared to try? Time for that leap of faith my friend. Let God bring you out of your comfort zone. He will do amazing things when you do.

Come on…stretch yourself! You can do it! You (and others) will be blessed.

Ezekiel 34:24b (NIV)

“I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing.”

Sometimes taking a leap of faith means taking on something new. Sometimes it means refusing to take on any more and buckling down to do what’s before you. I love signing up for new things. To a certain extent, I’m still doing that. But I have Right Now Responsibilities that require more attention than I’m giving them. So, for me, it’s time to leap into those tasks beckoning me from my day planner.

    Thanks again, Dar.

I, too, love your new theme. I hope you don’t mind, but I changed my fitness blog to use the same one. “Imitation is the highest form of flattery.” :^)
