I sat in my favourite spot on the couch, got out my knitting and turned on the television. My show was about to begin and I couldn’t wait to see how the season premiere would start. Would Kate really die? I hoped not. Would she remember that Castle told her he loved her? She better.
“Awww, this is the life,” I said to myself as I took a sip of my tea. It felt good going down after a long day. My shoulders began to relax.
The theme music started and anticipation welled inside of me. The final scene from last season replayed and once again Richard Castle said those three words every girl wants to hear to Kate Beckett as she lay in his arms. Her eyes closed. The scene flips to—-
My doorbell rang interrupting my peaceful world of Castle. Who could that be? Errrr…
I threw my knitting aside. “I can’t believe someone is here.” I stomped up the stairs, walked to the front door, and pulled it open, ready to growl at the unsuspecting person on the other side of the screen.
My jaw dropped. Instantly, I knew the man before me even though I had never seen him before.
“Jesus,” I whispered.
“My child,” he said. “Can I come in?”
Shaking off my shock, I unlocked the screen door and let him inside.
The television blared downstairs intruding upon our visit. I could envision the books on my coffee table, dishes in the sink, and everything else you wouldn’t want a visitor to see.
“Can you wait here for a minute? Sorry, just a couple things I need to do,” I said.
He nodded.
I ran to get rid of the…
What would you do if Jesus came to visit unexpectedly? Would you dust off your Bible, shove the magazines off your coffee table and place His word in plain sight? Would you be embarrassed by something you were watching, reading or looking at on the internet? Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying Castle is a bad show! It’s one of my faves, but perhaps there are shows or movies we shouldn’t be watching. Books we should leave on the shelf, sites our eyes shouldn’t be viewing, and magazines we should never have bought.
What would you clean up and hide if Jesus came over for a coffee? Interesting question and one we should all contemplate.
Would we act differently if Jesus walked among us physically? I’m thinking yes. We probably would be more careful on what we said to others, how we treated our neighbours, and how much time we spent doing meaningless activities. We’re all guilty.
Then, there are the thoughts we shouldn’t be thinking. Remember He knows everything. Are there some you would try to hide from Him? Again, we’re all guilty.
Even though Jesus IS with us, how about we pretend He is walking with us physically every day, every hour, every second of our lives. If we did, I know we would shape up and be the child He longs us to be. Will you accept the challenge? I do.
“Hi Jesus, did you want a coffee or tea this afternoon? I just made some yummy cupcakes.”
Luke 24:36 (NIV)
While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
WOW!!! I loved this . I was actually walking through my mind as the story unfolded(picturing your house you on you couch then going to answer the door) I never expected it to be JESUS. We should live this way because He is with us everywhere we go, any way!!! Love Ya SIS
Love the challenge. Thanks so much, my friend.
Great post, Dar! I’ve often wondered the same thing. If Jesus knocked on my door would I frantically run through my house and tidy up or try to hide anything? What about my spiritual house? I’d probably hit my knees as the imperfect faces Perfection, Jesus.
