Do you ever wonder who made the first New Year’s resolution? Was it Adam and Eve? And…did they keep it?
Probably not.
Face it, most of us make resolutions, but never carry them through. Oh, we might for a few weeks or even months, but come mid-February we get back into our normal routine.
Why is that? Do we get lazy and can’t be bothered?
I think that’s part of it, but we’re just plain too busy! We get preoccupied with other ‘stuff’ around us. I know I do.
And…what is a resolution anyway? The Oxford dictionary says, “a thing resolved on; an intention.”
I have lots of intentions, but somehow other things always get in the way.
So, what would happen if we didn’t make any resolutions?
Probably not a lot, but doesn’t it feel good to make them? They give us a purpose to strive for. A goal.
I prefer to call them goals. Sounds more attainable to me. My goal for 2012, other than to grow in Christ, is to finish my book Amber Dreams. There…I’ve put it in writing. Will you hold me accountable? This also means I will be hibernating. So, if you’re looking for me, I’ll be at my keyboard!
What are your goals for 2012? How about posting them on my site, so I can hold you accountable? We’re in this together!
Happy New Year!!!
Phil 3:14 (NIV)
“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Great challenge for us all and YES you WILL finish your book!!! As for me: My goal is to teach more and cut hair less, so I can have a better balance when I turn 50 this year. There, I typed that big 50 number out too!!! Love ya Sis!!!
Thanks Sis! I’m so excited for you on your teaching. You will be awesome. So proud of you! xoxoxo
‘m going to resolve to stay positive and not let negativity have the upper hand.
I’m going to keep writing my fiction books and I will keep them fun, but I will always include a lesson.
A lesson in acceptance and love.
And I will pray to God that my work will make a difference. Even if only for one life.
Happy New Year to all and may 2012 be the best ever!
Hi Kathleen! Welcome! I love your resolutions. I totally agree and also pray that God uses my work to make a difference. All the best in 2012!
Thank you so much- all the best to you and yours in 2012!
Good stuff, Dar!
My top three goals are 1) share my faith more deliberately, 2) invest in the lives of my family members (again, more deliberately), and 3) submit my writing instead of simply planning to submit my writing.
All the best, my hibernating friend.
These are awesome goals Steph! You go girl!
