There came two weary travellers
upon a dusty road
the one was very great with child
uncomfortable and cold.
The other too was cold and spent
upon his brow a frown
for he must find, at this late hour,
a place to lay them down.
Each time they stopped along the way
the answer they would hear
“No room” and then the door would close
though Mary’s time drew near.
At last, a lowly stable found
but it was dry and warm
and here amidst the animals
God’s only Son was born.
Amazing for the King of Kings
there was no jeweled crown,
no palace bed with silken sheets
concealing princely gown.
Instead, a manger bed of straw,
a star to crown His head
and royal proclamation came
to shepherds where they tread.
The sky was lit with heav’nly light
as angels sang in awe,
“All heav’n within a manger lies
a gift for you from God.”
Thanks Barbara for letting me use your poems on my blog. You are so gifted.
Merry Christmas everyone! I pray you all have a blessed Christmas with your families. I couldn’t decide between two songs so I’m including them both. The words are powerful. Enjoy. God bless.
