Cold Shot
By Dani Pettrey
Four best friends. And then one went missing . . .
Griffin McCray and his best buds did everything together—the four musketeers. They had their lives all planned out.
And then the unthinkable happened. One vanished. Their friendships crumbled.
Years later, after leaving his life as a SWAT sniper when a botched case turned deadly, Griffin resigns himself to living a quiet life as a park ranger. That is until skeleton remains are discovered in his neck of the woods—on his watch.
Beautiful forensic anthropologist Finley Scott discovers evidence suggesting the remains were the work of a sniper. She’s soon targeted and Griffin steps in to protect her, but tries to keep his past a secret. And . . . his heart from falling captive to her charm.
Griffin’s history catches up with him when his best buds arrive on the scene to help solve the investigation—one as an FBI officer and the other as a crime scene analyst. Everything spirals out of control and the entire team is put at risk.
Will Griffin and Finley deal with the skeletons in their closets before the sniper, who has them in his sights, takes the cold shot?

Cold Shot is book one in Dani Pettrey’s Chesapeake Valor series. This is a series where the main characters are men. This is unusual for a female author. Did it work?
Yes!
Ms. Pettrey sets this series up nicely with the feud of these high school chums who severed ties but are now reunited years later to solve a crime. The tension between Griffin and Parker was great. Each character was well rounded and played a vital role in this story. I can see they will be involved in the books to come. They all had their weaknesses and strengths.
The plot was fast-paced but also slowed down at times in order for you to catch your breath. Excellent pacing! The dialogue was witty and believable.
I really enjoyed this book. It kept me turning the pages, trying to figure out who the assassin really was!
I definitely want to see more of this Chesapeake brotherhood.
I give Cold Shot five targets. You’ll want to keep this one in your crosshairs!
