Counted with the Stars
By Connilyn Cossette
The young and beautiful Egyptian Kira finds herself sold into slavery by none other than her own father. She’s at the mercy of a mistress who only wants to humiliate her at every turn. Why? Her only refuge is found in another slave—a Hebrew girl. They become friends, but Shira is banned to kitchen duty when she takes the blame for one of Kira’s mistakes. They start meeting in secret where Shira tells Kira of Yahweh—the Hebrew God.
Egypt is inflicted by many plagues because Pharaoh won’t let the Hebrew people go. As the most deadly one yet is about to strike, Kira discovers a secret her mother kept buried, sending Kira, her mother, and brother fleeing for their lives with the Hebrew people.
Including Shira’s brother—a man she once held contempt for but now finds herself being lured in by.
countedWill Kira find love among the Hebrew people, turn away from her gods, and surrender to the One directing her path in the Egyptian wilderness?
Counted with the Stars is a debut novel for author Connilyn Cossette, but you wouldn’t know it! Her writing style will leave you breathless. First of all, I loved how she wrote it through the eyes of an Egyptian. It really brings the biblical story to life and gives us a different perspective.
The characters are well rounded, bringing them to life. I loved Kira and Eben. Both were stubborn but had such gentleness to them. The plot was well paced with nice twists along the way. It kept me turning the pages. The only negative comment I have is there were times (and only a few!), I found myself skimming some of the descriptions and historical elements.
Ms. Cossette’s imagery and sensory details were superb. Her word choices left me breathless at times. Beautiful!
I loved Counted with the Stars and give it 4 starry skies. It will leave you wanting to taste the honey-flavored manna in the wilderness!

I love reading Bible stories that are fictionalized (Is that a word?) It brings new perspective and understanding to the original story.

It definitely does bring it to life. I loved the way the author told it from an Egyptian’s perspective. Very interesting!

Hi Jayna! Definitely worth it. It’s a great read. I was just looking at the next one coming in October . . . Shadow of the Storm, and it looks great too!

Historical Fiction…my favorite genre! I like being transported to other times and places through an author’s research and imagination.

Hi Alice! You’ll love this one. It will transport you right into biblical times and put you both with the Egyptians as they go through the plagues and the Hebrews as they flee Pharaoh! Thanks for stopping by.
