Burden of Proof
By DiAnn Mills

FBI Special Agent April Ramos is struggling to get over a negotiation gone wrong when a woman thrusts a crying baby into her arms, then flees. Moments later, a man approaches her claiming to be the child’s father and takes her hostage at gunpoint. She learns this man is a fugitive accused by the local sheriff of murder. Her FBI skills are about to be tested to the limit.

Jason Snyder is desperate to keep his daughter safe after her abduction and he’s determined to prove the murder allegations against him are wrong. For some reason, the crafty sheriff is out to get him. On the run for his life, he must convince April of his innocence.

April struggles with Jason’s claim but soon realizes something sinister is going on in the sleepy town of Sweet Briar, Texas when she overhears a conversation with the sheriff. Can Jason and April trust in the system to solve this mystery? Will their attraction for each other get in the way?

DiAnn Mills does it again! This riveting tale is cleverly woven and leaves the reader breathless. She is a masterful storyteller and this new release is no exception. It grabbed me from the first page and didn’t let me go until I finished it. This is a sign of a great novel.

The characterization in this book is superb. I fell in love with both April and Jason, finding myself cheering them on in their quest to solve Jason’s mystery. Adding a child to the mix was also a nice touch. It made my heart melt when Jason showed his love for his little girl.

The tension and conflict in this story were well placed. Just when you think they were safe, wham! Something else happens. This puts the reader right into the story, holding their breath. The author’s use of sensory is done effectively. It brings the words on the page to life.

The faith aspects in the storyline are well done and realistic. The romance between the two characters was an added bonus to the novel!

I give Burden of Proof five stars. I guarantee you won’t be able to put it down!

*An e-copy of this book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.
