My latest novel, Harmony on the Horizon, follows four main characters. Two of them live in San Diego and two in San Francisco, yet their lives are inextricably linked in ways they don’t initially understand. The choices and actions of each character, whether close by or separated by hundreds of miles, significantly impact the lives of the others. It is this latter unseen interplay which creates a hint of mystery for the characters. Though they see and suffer the effects of another’s choices, they aren’t immediately aware of the trouble’s source and are forced to piece together what they do know to determine the cause of their troubles before attempting to find a solution. 

In that spirit of solving problems without all the information, I thought it would be fun to share with you the riddle below which was written sometime in the mid-nineteenth century by Christina Rossetti:

There is one that has a head without an eye,

And there’s one that has an eye without a head:

You may find the answer if you try;

And when all is said,

Half the answer hangs upon a thread!
