Songs from the Heart – The Broken Ones

She positioned them with care on the couch, lining her dolls in a row. Each had a different limb missing. She grabbed her clipboard and pencil.

“Hi, I’m Doctor Cassie. You look like you need a little patching up. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of you.”

She pulled a Band-Aid from her white coat pocket and smiled. “Who’s first?”

Have you ever needed a little patchin’ up? Physically or mentally?

We all have at one point or another.

So why is it so hard for us to help others who are broken? The ones who in our eyes are maybe beyond help? Can we admit that’s how we feel?

broken onesWe all know them—the homeless man on the street begging for our loose change, the teenager with the baggy pants wanting to clean our windshield, the pregnant teenage girl sitting in the pew in front of us. Or maybe our neighbour who is a bit different from the rest.

Why do we shun them?

Perhaps we’re scared to reach out and get involved. Or maybe because we think someone else will do it, so we don’t need to.

This is why there are so many broken ones. Shame on us. We live in a hurting world full of people who need us. We don’t take the time to reach out and love them like we should.

Like Christ does.

He sees us in the rough and loves us anyway. He doesn’t care where we’ve been or what we’ve done. It doesn’t matter to Him. We matter to Him. Every broken person matters to Him. (Click to tweet)

Even the ones that need a little patchin’ up.

Can we love like that?

Jesus commands us to.

So let’s do it!

How can we help the broken ones? I’m challenging myself with these words too. What are your suggestions?

Mark 12:31 (NIV)

The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”

The Broken Ones written by Jerry Salley, J.B. Rudd, Vip (Carl) Vipperman

This song is heart-wrenching and heart-warming all in one. Listen to the words. I’m excited to share this video with you as my husband is singing in it! Left to right are April Sackrider, Kristen Tomen, and Jeff Turner.
