Meet Darlene L. Turner

darlene-turner-hr-4Growing up, I was better known as “Red” or “Carrot Top,” but ever since I picked up my first Nancy Drew book, I’ve always loved a good mystery. That’s when my love of writing took hold of my heart. I started writing my own “Mindy Dobson” mystery series! Unfortunately, the spark faded and life happened. I grew up and put my writing on the back burner.

Years flew by and after rough roads, I picked up my pen again. With the spark re-ignited, I joined a writer’s club (WWC – Women Writing for Christ, London, ON) and my passion for writing grabbed my heart. I knew God wanted me to write my story, but it wouldn’t happen right away.

I started taking writing courses through the Christian Writer’s Guild (CWG) to grow my skills and after a few years, I graduated from the Craftsman course. I’ve written devotionals, articles (personal experience, travel, inspirational), and short stories. I’ve attended writers conferences with Write Canada, CWG, and American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW).

I began this blog to share my story. You can find it under My Story. Since then I’ve blogged about various lessons I learned from my mother under Mama’s Patchworkmy trip to Israel under Holy Land Highlights, how we can relate to God’s word under Still True Today, fun pictures under Picture Thisbook and movie reviews, and a series on women – Coffee & Conversations with Women of the Bible. Check out all of my categories and leave me a comment. There’s something for everyone! I’d love to hear from you.

I also fulfilled my dream of writing contemporary romantic suspense books. I’m now working on a trilogy and believe the reader can find suspense beyond borders.

bootsI’ve experienced incredible journeys throughout my life. Some exciting. Others heart-wrenching. Even though I questioned “Why?” at times, I’m grateful God allowed them to happen. They made me stronger. God is good. All the time.

I pray you will travel with me on this journey. Laugh with me. Cry on my shoulder. Give me your thoughts.

God bless, Darlene

P.S. I’ve remarried since the journey I blog about under the category My Story. I’m currently living in London, Ontario with my husband Jeff.

Dear Darlene: From what I have read it seems that you do such wonderful work. You must have great faith in Jesus Christ to do the Lords work. This world is such a better place knowing that there are people like you in it making the world a better place to live in. Perhaps I am selling myself short but I wish that I can be as courageous as you are. But people keep telling me that I can do anything once I put my mind to it. Perhaps I should listen to these people more often. But in the meantime you keep up the good work and as Dr Robert Schuller says every week on The Hour of Power God loves you. Jesus loves everybody of this world. May the Lord be with you as you continue to do his work and God Bless you and your husband Jeff and have great day.

What an inspiration you are, Darlene, not just to me but to all writers who dream, believe and attempt to fly! When you first joined WWC, Amber Dreams was high on your list of priorities as you struggled in the early days of writing it. (YOU DREAMED!) Then you stepped out (YOU BELIEVED!) and endured several wonderful years of learning more in the writing world. You have moved ahead and Amber Dreams may very well become a reality…no longer a dream! (YOU ARE FLYING!) I’m very proud of you and only wish I still lived in London, if nothing else but to connect with you and watch you grow. Thanks for being a faithful friend, despite the distance. Blessings to you and Jeff! (P.S. I LOVE the Amber Dreams cover!!)

Hi Ruth! Thanks for all your kind comments. YOU are an inspiration to ME! You’ve taken your dream and flown with it. I’m so proud of you. I truly believe that one day Amber Dreams will be on the book shelves next to yours (well, fairly next to yours since T’s are close to W’s)! 🙂

Thank you for all your encouragement. I miss you too and wish we were closer my friend. Love you both! xoxo

Darlene, congratulations on your Operation First Novel Top 10 finish! I too entered the contest. I thought I’d be sooo disappointed to at least not place in the Top 10, but it just shows how great and good the Lord is—I’m truly happy for you. Now go get that publisher!

I ran into Jeff last week. We had a quick chat and got briefly caught up. Joel just bought his first car, Moriel is 16 and Chase just started high school. As Jeff and I said good bye, I walked to my car smiling, thinking about how blessed Jeff was to meet and marry you. Okay and to give credit to Jeff, I reminded myself that you were blessed to meet and marry Jeff. The bottom line was, I thought about how amazing it was that God brought you two together. You are such a beautiful person Darlene inside and out. You are kind and tender hearted, you are fun and adventurous, you have a great sense of style, you are a welcoming hostess. The list goes on.
Jeff updated me about his folks and about you and your writing. He scribbled on a piece of paper your website. Wow! Darlene. This is beautiful. Your writing is beautiful. Authentic comes to mind.
I thank God for women who give themselves to God like you have, and can allow Him to use any situation for His glory.
I pray that God in a mighty way might use your journey to encourage and inspire believers. I pray too that God would use your writing to speak to those who do not know Christ. I pray that as they read they will be intrigued to know the God that you know.
May God richly bless you Dar.

Awwww….thanks Lisa! You’re so sweet. I can’t believe your kids are that age! Man, I’m getting old. 🙂 I miss you! We always had so much fun at the gigs with you. Thanks for your comments on my writing. I pray all the time that God will use it for His glory. I really appreciate your encouragement. Take care and God bless!
