Buried Secrets by Irene Hannon
Have you ever wanted something so badly you’d stop at nothing to get it? Even take it as far as revenge?
Three college students find themselves in this predicament at the beginning of Buried Secrets, book 1 of Irene Hannon’s Men of Valor series. A joy ride gone badly could jeopardize their future, so they choose to bury it . . . or lose everything.
Years later, Mac McGregor ex-Navy SEAL turned detective, is called in to help small-town law enforcement investigate the discovery of bones in an unmarked grave, but he’s shocked at what he finds.
A drop-dead gorgeous police chief by the name of Lisa Grant.
He struggles to keep his attention on the business at hand—solving the secret of the buried bones.
Lisa Grant was hoping for quieter times in a small town than what she was used to in Chicago, but finding these bones just made things a lot noisier. And the handsome detective at her side was complicating her heart.
As they unravel the secrets the bones hid for years, more bodies begin to pile up, but the clues to solving the cold case become stale.
Can they trip up the person they suspect? Or will the bones keep their secret forever?
Irene Hannon has brilliantly crafted this tale of bones. Her hero and heroine both are strong characters. They drew me in immediately and I was rooting for them. Her plot, dialogue, and pacing are all well done.
My only complaint would be Ms. Hannon revealing the antagonist’s identity. I like to try and guess as the story unfolds. I also would have liked more action as they were solving the case. There were times when the story was a bit slow.
Overall, I loved this story and can’t wait for book 2 of the Men of Valor series!
I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
If you like romance and suspense with a grave of bones mixed in . . . this book is for you!
