Outgrow Your Space at Work

By Rick Whitted

How many times have you been unsatisfied with your job and been quick to move on? Have you continually asked the question, “How do I get promoted?”

outgrow3You’re not alone and the answer may surprise you.

In his book, Outgrow Your Space at Work, Rick Whitted brings a fresh approach to this and many other questions. His thoughts and advice challenge the reader to think outside the box, looking inward.

If you’re thinking of moving on to another role within your organization, applying for a promotion, or quitting, this is a great reference book to read before making any decisions! It’s packed full of sound advice from an author who knows what he’s talking about. Rick Whitted’s experience of managing teams brings a wealth of knowledge.

The book is well-written and keeps your attention with stories from Mr. Whitted’s career. This not only gives us examples but also helps bring home his point. Part One talks about what motivates our careers. Why is a promotion so important? How do we measure succesoutgrow your spaces? The Four P’s of Promotion.

In Part Two, Mr. Whitted gives us nine steps to outgrow our workspace. These are invaluable and gave me a different perspective on the workforce. I loved this quote:

“Slow down. Take your time and focus on the journey, not the destination.” –Rick Whitted

At the end of each chapter of Part Two there are “Reflections” questions to help you think further on what you just read. There are also podcasts and a career assessment the reader can do to help them through the process.

I highly recommend anyone in the workforce to read this book. I give it four stars. It’s one book you can take to your lunch room and share!
