This past weekend we celebrated Canada Day. No matter how we celebrate, it’s always a fun time and signifies a start to summer vacations.
However, shouldn’t it be more? It’s not just about partying and fireworks. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s fun, but it also should be about celebrating our great nation and how we come together as provinces, cities, and communities in times of need.
I’m reminded of this as I heard a song written by Sean McCann of Great Big Sea. It’s called Proud and it’s about how we as a country came together to support those who lost so much in the fires of Fort McMurray.
These fires were tragic. So many lost their homes. They lost everything. EVERYTHING. But our country picked up the pieces for them and helped out.
I don’t know about you, but that’s what celebrating Canada Day is all about.
I’m so proud to be Canadian!
How about you?
