Happy New Year! Can you believe 2021 is gone? I bet most of us are glad to see it behind us. How do we press forward in a time still plagued with uncertainty? I always dread the start of a new year in some respects. I do love a fresh start, but also get a wee bit scared of what it will bring. Will it be filled with heartache or joyful happenings? However, God is in control. I just have to trust…and hope.

As we start 2022, I’m wondering . . . do you make New Year’s resolutions? I have to be honest. I’ve never been one to make resolutions other than to be a better Christian. One who is more Christ-like. But, isn’t that what being a Christian is all about? Every day. Yes. Instead, I like to think of a word to focus on all year round. It seems to be the thing to do instead of resolutions. I also like to set goals. Specifically writing goals. Write more, read more, etc.

This year I’ve chosen the following word. Drumroll please . . .

FOCUS

So many times I get distracted by what’s happening around me. You know that FOMO…fear of missing out. When I’m writing, if I hear a ding on my phone, I need to see what’s going on, who emailed, who said what on social media. I’m learning to silence my phone, get out of social media, and just write. However, it’s more than that. What about my family, friendships, and my faith?

In 2022, I want to stay focused on my writing, relationships, and most importantly, my faith. To help me focus on my writing, I’m using the My Brilliant Planner. It’s a great resource for writers. I love a fresh start…an empty slate. Time to fill it up with goals, story ideas, inspirations, and much more!

What’s your word for 2022?

Therefore, holy brothers, partners in a heavenly calling, keep your focus on Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession. Hebrews 3:1 (ISV)

Hi Debby! Those are great words and I love that verse. A simple command but so hard to do at times, right? Thanks for sharing!

My word for 2022 is surrender. However, I’ve realized that I have to trust God in order to surrender to His will. As a result of trusting Him and surrendering to Him, I’ll experience the peace of God.
